Link to History: Every middle school student is evaluated over the course of their education in this version of modern Japan. The purpose is to find the elite of the elite, students with immense potential in at least one area. Those students are invited to take an exam to attend the Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing High School - a technical college that prioritizes both student autonomy and a truly cutthroat ethos where excelling on your own is not enough and sabotage is the name of the game. Students are sorted into classes A, B, C or D based on ability, and for them the goal is to make it to the A class by any means necessary. The overarching goal is to find the biggest potential for the country's future and any student that graduates in class A is guaranteed a job.

Students are insulated on a campus that is 60 square kilometers, saying goodbye to the outside world and becoming mired in the internal politics of this education landscape. Campus includes things like recreation complexes and a full mall, and students live in their own dormitory housing.

Kiyotaka passes the exam with a 50 on every single subject. He is the only student ever admitted not to have been evaluated in middle school, due to his original education being in the White Room - a secret education based experiment. He was accepted in to the D class, which is the bottom rung. Determined to have a normal high school education and using this particular school where student self-determination governs all as a shield to avoid returning to the White Room, he takes painstaking care not to stand out.

In the shadows however, Kiyotaka is manipulating his classmates, their rivals, in a massive tangled web while deflecting credit at every opportunity. Ruthless and detached, he will do absolutely anything to secure his place as he wants it, including engaging in psychological warfare. He will endeavor to keep anyone around that he sees as potentially useful and cut loose anyone who could be a detriment to the entire class getting ahead.

Canon Abilities:

* Genius-Level Intellect: While his exact limits are not known, he claims that nothing they've been thrown from university level problems and beyond has been outside of the realm he cannot solve. He also uses this to plan elaborate schemes with many moving parts.

* Perceptive: Kiyotaka is exceptionally perceptive and he notices things people don't, often to pull off elaborate schemes at a later date. He's good at rooting out people's secrets on the tiniest of clues.

Role: Myth
Role Qualities/Attributes: Pointed devil horns, sharpened teeth and a winding devil-like tail. Being able to see in the dark would be useful to him, as well as resistance to poisons/gasses.
Role Reasoning: Kiyotaka is extremely self-motivated for self-preservation purposes. Everything he does is in service to the small measure of freedom he has at the school and he will fight to keep it that way, regardless of who tries to get in his way. He doesn't think he's asking for too much to have an ordinary high school life for awhile, but that's not how things have worked out. He also sees everyone around him as tools to be used and discarded when they cannot be useful anymore. There are indications he could grow beyond this, that would be to his benefit.

What was the most traumatic experience your character endured? How did this change them?

Since he was born he was entered into the White Room program that was being run by his father, which was by far the most traumatic and foundational experience for Kiyotaka. The White Room runs experiments to find what would be the most effective way to educate humans to create super geniuses, regardless of where they came from through environmental influence. Kiyotaka was a member of the 4th Generation. The tactics taken with his group was considered severe individualism, meaning each student was raised to ignore the collective to accomplish the very best and they were expected to be the very best across every subject. By far the most brutal method tested, each of his peers were retired from the program around him, leaving him the sole survivor.

Kiyotaka is so successful in a well-rounded way that he is the benchmark for each generation that follows. He is, at present, the only success of the White Room program.

Due to this, Kiyotaka does not know how to get close to people. He doesn't feel compassion for them. He sees them as tools to be used until they are not useful. He doesn't know how to relate to them on a personal level. Part of his training included severe lack of social interactions and so things like gentle touch, or warmth from another human being directed at him was not part of his upbringing.

What is the most important and defining relationship(s) in your character's life and why?

Using the definition of important and defining loosely, it would have to be his relationships with Suzune Horikita and Kikyo Kushida.

Suzune was his first failed attempt at a friendship, but despite that her headstrong nature and latent leadership qualities, as well as her academic prowess made her an attractive pawn especially early on in their first year. During the period where he decided that putting forth effort wasn't worth it - their relationship fractured slightly as he pulled away from her. He rarely tells her his plans ahead of time and often factors in her failures, but he also believes that if he puts a bit of time and effort into her building her leadership skills, she would make a formidable foe for the other leaders and make their class a genuine threat.

His relationship with Kikyo has been adversarial from the start. It's a relationship of mutual manipulation, although he only allows her to manipulate him to a certain point. At times she seems to want to be his friend, but due to the fact she's blackmailing him, he has no interest in that. He openly uses her to spread her cheerful persona when he needs to mobilize most of their classmates from the shadows. He also turns her into an informant, giving her half of his allowance for her information about their classmates. It's also a relationship of mutual destruction as both parties are actively trying to get the other expelled.

What is your character's moral code? Do they have one? Why or why not?

Kiyotaka's moral code is massively skewed. When it comes to using people and using underhanded tactics, there doesn't seem to be a limit. While he rarely gets his own hands dirty, he's willing to let people get tortured so he can swoop in and be the saviour, in order to draw them close to be a favoured pawn. He believes the only thing that matters is winning, and he's not going to lose. Whatever it takes.

When he does resort to violence, he is completely impassive about it, doling out pain and injury without it even phasing him.

In recent months there are a seldom few people that have slightly chipped away at his armor and they get slotted not quite into a friend zone, but in a space where he won't manipulate them. It's a baby step, but it's a step towards potentially changing. He still believes he would drop them the moment they don't fulfill their roles in his life.

His behaviour is entirely a by-product of his upbringing and he hasn't found a reason to challenge it, yet.

What would your character sacrifice to get what they want or to reach their potential? What have they sacrificed already?

Kiyotaka has a simple desire for freedom, something he was not granted in the White Room and through the kindness of a butler, he was able to escape and join this technical college. He learns later that this escape attempt involved the sacrifice of that butler, and Kiyotaka doesn't know how to feel about the fact the man has died under suspicious circumstances. He's angered some very influential people but he has chosen his landing pad very very carefully so that they can't just drag him back - which they want. Desperately.

At the outset, he is willing to sacrifice anything and everything for this small taste, such as it is. He's willing to sacrifice the other students at the school if need be. At this point in time, he's doing his best to deal with it under the cover of the shadows, to keep his classmates involved, but the members of the White Room are set to infiltrate the school in an effort to exert enormous pressure on him, to push exactly how far he's willing to go for his own selfish dream.

In this moment, Kiyotaka would say he would do anything and discard anyone - but it's difficult to say if his resolve would hold.
